Coffee TImes by Christine Tacq uses various quotes from Paul-Jean Toulet, Charlotte Brontë and other writers and is part commentary and part autobiography. Tacq was inspired by 19th century French poet and critic Paul-Jean Toulet’s postcards he sent to himself as a way to document his life. On each postcard Tacq writes down bits and pieces of her experiences and comments on the meaning of each. The volume was created by with a letterpress on chine collé for the cover and then copied as an ink jet printed text, over-printed with drypoint and collagraph images. The use of coffee filter pockets to hold the cards is an imaginative addition to the piece, driving home the coffee shop feel of the work.
