In 1944 French artist Henri Matisse began to illustrate Les Fleurs du Mal. The edition was completed in 1947 and published by La Bibliothèque Française. This rare first edition, acquired by the Jean and Alexander Heard Library, is one of 300 copies signed by the artist. The volume was acquired with generous funding provided by the Heard Society. This issue is unbound and in a case; it is issue number 183 of the signed 300.
